SARAH PALIN CALLS FOR ACTION TO SAVE ALASKA CRABBING INDUSTRY

“Along with energy production, Washington, D.C. is cutting off domestic food sources. This can not continue!”

Wasilla, Alaska/October 19, 2022 — Former Gov. Sarah Palin issued the following statement today demanding coordinated action by state and federal leaders to save Alaska’s crabbing industry, which is threatened by precipitous drops in crab populations and miniscule quotas.

“Along with energy production, Washington, D.C. is cutting off domestic food sources. This can not continue!

“State and federal officials must work closely with affected communities and industry representatives to prevent a catastrophic collapse of the Alaska crabbing industry. Hundreds of millions of dollars, thousands of jobs, and generations of skill and expertise are at risk of being lost. As Alaska’s representative in Congress, I will make sure federal lawmakers give Alaska crabbers the support they need and deserve.

“A priority must be that federal research grants go to understanding the sudden collapse of crab populations in the Bering Sea. Then, using science and biological facts, we must take action to restore those populations to the point where both commercial and personal-use crabbers can survive and thrive.”
